In an effort to keep kids healthy and help them succeed in school, the Hopkinsville YMCA is starting a week day feeding program for kids under the age of 18.
The program is set to start August 26, according to a news release, and there will be two feeding locations in Christian County at launch. Site one will be the YMCA on the Eagle Way Bypass in Hopkinsville, serving a snack between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and then serving dinner from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. The second site will be the Oak Grove Community Center on Thompsonville Lane in Oak Grove, with dinner served from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.
Meals will be served at both locations Monday through Friday and is part of a year-round effort to address child hunger in the community. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, around 22 million children and teens under age 18 live with food insecurity.
