The ribbon was cut on the newly renovated Gateway Academy to Innovation and Technology Breathitt Campus on North Drive Monday—just in time for the students who will fill it Wednesday.
The building that once housed the Breathitt Veterinary Center underwent major renovations to house more programs and classes for Gateway, which Superintendent Mary Ann Gemmill says has undergone tremendous growth and really needed the expansion to benefit the students.
Gateway Principal Penny Knight says the building will house 200 students, who will be studying a variety of subjects in their nursing and biomedical courses.
Gemmill says the renovations were mostly funding by grants, in a partnership with Hopkinsville Community College.
Attendees of the ribbon cutting were able to take a tour of the space, which features updated technology, customizable desks, practice medical dummies and more.
The new school year kicks off on Wednesday and Gateway Academy—at both locations—will be buzzing with the activity of approximately 700 students, taking advantage of the opportunities presented to them.
