The city will be filled with eager runners, walkers and marathoners in September, when Hopkinsville hosts its inaugural half marathon and 5k racing event.
Speaking with the Rotary Club of Hopkinsville Tuesday, Race Director Korey Raymond says she’s eager to step into the role and help bring runners into the community on September 28. She says all the finishers will receive custom made medals and other race day items.
Raymond says walkers are also welcome to participate, and the more people who participate the better, because all money raised will benefit the United Way of the Pennyrile.
She says the marathon will start on Main Street and take a scenic route around the city and into the county before making its way back downtown.
Organizers encourage those interested to sign-up before the day of the race—pre-registration is still at a discounted rate, which will not be available on race day. There will be an expo held at the Sportsplex the day before the race, where runners will be able to pick up information packets and a grab-bag.
301 people have signed up to race so far, and Raymond expects even more to register as the date comes closer. For more information about the Hoptown Half Marathon and 5k, follow along on Facebook or go online to hoptownhalf.com.
