Haddock’s Grocery and Deli closes its doors

After over 70 years of service in Hopkinsville, Haddock’s Grocery and Deli closed its doors for the final time Sunday afternoon.

Gary Haddock is a previous owner of the store and notes that his father and uncle built and opened the store on East Ninth Street 73 years ago.

He says many notable people have eaten a sandwich at the Hopkinsville mainstay.

Jim Gardner operated the store from 1987 until he retired and turned the operation over to longtime employee Regina Burkhead in 2017.

Haddock says seeing the store close is particularly sad for him, having grown up there.

He says he’s unsure what will become of the building, noting he picked up the keys Sunday afternoon and there was nothing left inside but lights and a couple of potato chip racks.
