Hemp processing plant to open in Hopkinsville

OZ Capital, LLC has announced that it will locate a hemp processing facility known as Halcyon Thruput, LCC in Hopkinsville and is expected to create 30 jobs in the community.

According to a release from the Southwestern Kentucky Economic Development Council, Halcyon is a post-harvest, midstream drying and processing facility for the recent federally legalized hemp crop. Along with the 30 jobs, the business expects to provide agricultural infrastructure that will support local and regional farmers throughout southwest Kentucky and northern Tennessee.

The 48,000 square foot facility was purchased in May 2019 by OZ Capital, LLC, an Opportunity Zone investment firm based in Fort Worth, TX. The facility is currently undergoing upgrades that will greatly increase the efficiency and capacity during harvest.

SWEDC President Mark Lindsey says, “We are very excited not only that Halcyon Thruput has decided to locate in Hopkinsville, KY, but also that they are the first commercial real estate transaction in an Opportunity Zone in the county. They will operate a hemp business in the city limits that will bring jobs and capital investment into our community.”

The upgrades are scheduled to be completed by the middle of August, in time for the 2019 harvest. The facility was once Metokote, located in the Hopkinsville Industrial Park.
