Ireland’s Shane Lowry won the British Open by six strokes to pick up his first major championship. After setting the 54-hole tournament record, Lowry shot 1-over in wet and windy conditions to finish 15-under par at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland. Tommy Fleetwood placed second at 9-under par, Tony Finau finished third at 7-under, while Brooks Koepka – who had won three of the previous six majors – and Lee Westwood tied for fourth at 6-under.
Louisville area native Justin Thomas tied for 11th at three under par and Campbellsville native JB Holmes, who was in contention, ended up tied for 67th at six over following a dismal Sunday final round.
