Madisonville man arrested on meth trafficking charges

A Madisonville man has been arrested on multiple trafficking charges following a months long investigation into drug distribution in the Hopkins County area.

According to a report from the Madisonville-Hopkins County Vice Narcotics Unit, the agency has been investigating a large scale drug trafficking operation since January, with the help of Kentucky State Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Investigation determined that 31-year old Corey Civils of Madisonville was an allegedly significant distributor of large amounts of methamphetamine.

Detectives were able to plan an undercover buy and purchased meth from Civils. A search warrant was issued for the residence Civils was staying on Bartlett Avenue in Madisonville and at a second residence on Pride Avenue.  During the searches, a handgun, more than five marijuana plants, a Polaris Slingshot and assorted drug paraphernalia was allegedly recovered.

Civils was arrested and charged with two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, cultivating marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officials suspect that more arrest will happen as a result of the investigation.
