Fire departments in Todd County will soon have access to their first ever ladder truck after it was delivered Sunday morning.
The 1992 Spartan 104-foot ladder truck with 11,000 miles was delivered to the Guthrie Volunteer Fire Department, where it will be housed permanently. While the truck will be used by any department at any location where it’s needed in Todd County, the Novelis industrial project in Guthrie was driving force behind purchasing the truck that was formerly owned by a department in Pennsylvania.
The new plant is 90 feet high in some places and Emergency Management Director Daniel Smith says no department in Todd County had the capability to provide fire suppression at heights over 20 feet.
Smith says some personnel should be trained to use the truck if it’s needed in a couple weeks and he hopes everyone will be completely ready by the fall.
Todd Fiscal Court recently designated the ladder truck as an emergency management vehicle to allow it to be used by multiple agencies instead of a single fire department. Fiscal court bought the truck from Command Fire Apparatus for $35,000.
