Clarksville City Council unanimously gave the go-ahead Thursday afternoon to hire Freddie Montgomery as the next chief of its fire and rescue department.
As previously reported, Chief Montgomery is retiring from the Hopkinsville Fire Department, effective August 1, and Mayor Joe Pitts says choosing Montgomery for his city made a lot of sense.
Chief Montgomery says he’s excited for the opportunity and will work to gain the trust of the department and the community.
Montgomery replaces former Clarksville chief Michael Roberts, who announced his retirement earlier this year.
