A group is in the process of gathering support and funding, as they intend to host a softball tournament in July in memory of a girl who recently took her own life and to raise awareness about suicide.
David Ryan Chase is the co-founder of the Cynclaire Ruby Rogers Annual Charity Softball Tournament and says in a letter that the loss of Rogers in May shook her family and friends to their core and sparked a desire to raise awareness about suicide prevention.
The first softball tournament is set to take place July 27 and July 28 at the Ruff Park Complex on North Drive. They’re already planning for the second tournament, which would take place at Tie Breaker Baseball Complex, thanks to a donation from the Parks and Recreation Department. Chase says to make sure this is a success, and that Rogers is never forgotten, it will need the support of the community and donations.
The local tournament is seeking donations of money, which would go towards the purchase of t-shirts, softballs and other equipment and supplies.
They are also still seeking teams to play in the tournament—to sign up, contact Chase at 270-889-7482, the entry fee is $50 per team and team members must be 15 years of age or older to play. All money raised by the tournament will go to benefit the American Society for Suicide Prevention.
