Hoppers win third straight in rallying to defeat Owensboro

The Hoptown Hoppers won their third straight game Friday night in downing East division leader Owensboro 8-5 at Tiger Field. The Hoppers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Drew McGowan scored on a groundout by Micah Genter after he had an infield hit, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch.

The Hoppers added two runs in the third on a two run home run by Hunter Evans to lead 3-0. Owensboro would score two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead. However, the Hoppers scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a double from Micah Genter to give the Hoppers a 6-5 lead. He would also hit a triple in the bottom of the seventh to give the Hoppers an 8-5 lead that proved to be the winner.

Wyatt Stevenson in relief of starter Clay Simpson would get the pitching win. The Hoppers are now 4-3 and have the day off today.
