Two women arrested on meth charges at local store

Two women were arrested on methamphetamine charges Thursday night following an investigation at the North Main Street Dollar General Store.

Officers were called to the store just before 7 p.m. and made contact with 45-year old Misty Samples and 30-year old Sara Newman, both of Hopkinsville, who were identified by store employees as the shoplifting suspects.

Police reports say both women struggled with officers and that they both had concealed merchandise.

Newman allegedly had several baggies of methamphetamine in her purse, in addition to a pipe and butcher knife. Samples had one bag containing a large amount of meth and several pain pills on her person and in her purse.

Both women were arrested for trafficking in methamphetamine and misdemeanor theft. Samples was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance and Newman with resisting arrest, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia and public intoxication.
