MLB: Reds Dietrich kills the Pirates, Cardinals, Braves and Cubs lose

Cincinnati Red Derek Dietrich homered not once, not twice, but thrice as the Reds beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 11-6 last night. Dietrich now has a career-high 17 home runs on the season, including seven off Pirates pitching. He finished the game 3-for-4 with six RBI. The teams conclude the series this afternoon at Great American Ball Park.

Elsewhere in the National League: The Philadelphia Phillies gave up three runs in the first inning but outlasted the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3. Adam Wainwright struck out 10, but allowed four runs in six frames to take the loss. Paul Goldschmidt and Marcell Ozuna homered in the first for St. Louis. The series continues this evening.

Stephen Strasburg struck out 11 over seven innings of two-run ball and the Washington Nationals held on to beat the Atlanta Braves 5-4. The series continues tonight at Sun Trust Park in Atlanta.

Interleague: The Houston Astros turned back the Chicago Cubs 9-6 at Minute Maid Park. David Bote homered twice with Jason Heyward, Addison Russell and Kyle Schwarber hitting solo shots in defeat. The Cubs have lost five of their last six as the series continues tonight in Houston.
