Sheriff’s Department to move into new building, host open house

The Christian County Sheriff’s Department informed Christian Fiscal Court Tuesday that they will soon be moving into their new location and the Christian County Animal Shelter gave a good report.

Animal Shelter Director Irene Grace says the shelter took in 374 animals during the month of March and were able to find homes for 320.

Grace also says they will have the Spayghetti Dinner and Live Auction as usual this year, but they have moved it from its May date to September. She says it’s their hope this will be more attendee friendly, as May typically is very busy with graduation, proms and other events.

Christian County Sheriff Tyler DeArmond says his department will be moving into the new Public Safety Building within the week and they’ll be open for business to the public there starting Monday. Before that though, he invites people to come explore the building on West Seventh Street on Friday for an open house between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

He says the new department will not only give them room to grow, but also better serve the community in a multitude of ways.

In other action, magistrates approved a county road aid cooperative contract and resolution that allows them to invest money into a road aid program and then use that money later in the event of an emergency, such as flooding.
