MLB: Reds & Cardinals sweep, Cubs win, Braves lose

The brooms were out in Cincinnati Thursday as the Reds swept the Miami Marlins 5-0. Six pitchers combined in the shutout as the Reds have now won three in a row following an eight game losing streak. The Reds return to action against the St. Louis Cardinals tomorrow night in Monterrey, Mexico with pregame at 5:40 on News Radio 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.

Speaking of the Cardinals, they scored four runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to rally for an 11-7 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, getting a four game sweep. The Redbirds have won five in a row.

Steven Matz struck out eight over six innings of two-run ball as the New York Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 6-3 at SunTrust Park. The Braves have now won seven of their last nine. Game two of the four game set is tonight.

Jose Quintana tossed seven shutout innings as the Chicago Cubs blanked the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-0 at Wrigley Field. Quintana struck out 11 while allowing four hits and a walk for the win. The Cubs welcome the Los Angeles Angels for the weekend beginning today.
