Legislative wrap-up program to air Sunday on WHOP

Our wrap-up program for the 2019 session of the Kentucky General Assembly will air Sunday morning on WHOP.

Eighth District state Representative Walker Thomas of Hopkinsville notes that on the session’s final day Thursday, lawmakers overrode multiple vetoes made by Governor Matt Bevin—including one relating to area development districts.

A ban on smoking in public schools and school vehicles and school properties beginning with the 2020-21 school year passed on the final day, but not with support from Ninth District Representative Myron Dossett, who believes that decision to be left up to local districts.

Legislation was also passed to correct mistakes in a prior tax bill this session that addressed sales tax issues for non-profits and eliminated the bank franchise tax in exchange for Kentucky banks paying the corporate income tax. Senator Whitney Westerfield says the issue was that bill also eliminated the local deposit tax—which was not intended by him and others.

Our legislative wrap-up airs Sunday morning at 9 on Lite Rock 98.7 and online at lite987whop.com.
