Gov. Bevin appoints Calloway Co. man to Ky. Supreme Court

Governor Matt Bevin has appointed Judge David Buckingham of Murray to the Kentucky Supreme Court as Justice for the Commonwealth’s first district.

Buckingham had a judicial career that spanned 29 years, serving as circuit judge from 1987 until 1996 and on the Kentucky Court of Appeals from 1997 until 2010.

He retired in 2011 and returned to private practice. For eight years, Judge Buckingham has served as counsel for both the Adams Law Firm and the Murray Independent School District.

In a news release Judge Buckingham says, “I appreciate the confidence Governor Bevin has shown in me by appointing me to the Kentucky Supreme Court. I pledge to the people of Kentucky that I will serve diligently and to the best of my ability.”

He replaces Justice Bill Cunningham, who recently retired.

Todd and Logan Circuit Judge Tyler Gill had been among those up for consideration for appointment to the Supreme Court.

District 1 includes 24 western Kentucky counties, including all of the Pennyrile region.
