Trinity won its second Boys state championship in defeating top ranked Scott County 50-40 on Sunday at Rupp Arena. Louisville signee David Johnson had 22 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Shamrocks who end the season 30-8.
Scott County was led in scoring by Michael Moreno who had 12 points and 12 rebounds as the Cardinals finish 35-4. Following the game, Scott County coach Billy Hicks hinted it would likely be his last game.
Trinity’s David Johnson was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament with Madisonville’s Kenny White making the All-Tournament Team.
The Girls Sweet 16 begins Wednesday at Rupp Arena, with 2nd region winner Henderson County playing its opening game against North Laurel Thursday night at 7 pm Hopkinsville time.
