The Hopkinsville Police Department has released information about a Thursday East Ninth Street crash that sent a Hopkinsville man to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for his injuries.
According to the police report, officers responded to the East Ninth Marathon gas station where a vehicle driven by 57-year old Stephen Hayes of Hopkinsville had gone off the road and struck a large sign post. Hayes had reportedly been travelling west bound on East Ninth when he may have lost consciousness behind the wheel, causing it to go off the road and collided with the post. He was still unconscious when officers arrived on scene.
Officers were reportedly able to get Hayes out of the vehicle and check his pulse—when no pulse was found, they began chest compressions at the scene.
He was transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center and then later taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
