Ground broken for E. C. Green Cancer Center expansion

Ground was broken Friday afternoon at Jennie Stuart Health as they celebrate the expansion of the E. C. Green Cancer Center.

The expansion will be about 800 square feet with around 3 to 4 foot thick walls, as the space will house state of the art technology to benefit those seeking treatment. Dr. Michael Murray says it will allow the center to treat more people on site and better serve their patients.

Dr. Murray says a vault that houses the equipment will be built first and then filled with technology that will allow them to work more efficiently.

He says some of the equipment is so state of the art it would be the only type of its kind in the region or even in the state. Jennie Stuart President and CEO Eric Lee says they are eager to bring these opportunities to the community and impact the lives of those in need.

The hope is for the expansion to be completed sometime in the summer of this year. The E. C. Green Cancer Center is named in honor of Emma Campbell Green and serves around 2,500 patients a year.
