Snow causes tough traveling on many area roads

Heavy rain Saturday was followed by blowing snow and bitter cold and traveling has become treacherous on many western Kentucky roads Sunday morning.

Hopkinsville Police Sgt. Tony Sierra says some of the main thoroughfares in the city have been plowed and are drivable, but most side streets are still snow and ice covered.

He says it seems most people used good judgement and stayed at home overnight and those who had to get out were driving safely, so there weren’t many accidents in the city.

Meanwhile, Christian County Sheriff’s Deputy Andy Sanderson says it was a similar story out in the county—with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet working first on the interstate and parkway.

He says avoid any unnecessary travel until conditions improve.

Todd County Sheriff’s Sgt. Patrick Turner echoed the call to stay at home, if possible.

Bitter cold is the story now, with a high temperature of 26 forecast for Sunday and it will feel much colder with the wind. Temperatures Monday morning will be in the teens.
