University of Louisville tight end Kermari Averett was suspended from the team today following his arrest. Averett was charged with first degree wanton endangerment and fourth degree assault after allegedly putting a gun to his girlfriend’s head and threatening to kill her.
According to the arrest citation, Averett realized his laptop was missing from a backpack returned by his girlfriend after the two had been studying Sunday night. The woman was unaware the laptop was missing, the report added.
The Courier Journal reports Averett pleaded not guilty to the charges today in Jefferson District Court. He is lodged in the Louisville Metro jail on a $10-thousand bond. Averett’s next court appearance is October 26th.
U of L coach Bobby Petrino and athletic director Vince Tyra released a statement today in announcing Averett’s indefinite suspension touting accountability and no tolerance for inappropriate conduct.
