The 2019 Distinguished Young Women of Christian County Scholarship Program is coming up this Sunday.
It will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Western Kentucky State Fairgrounds Convention Center, tickets for the event are $10 and will be available at the door or prior to event from one of the local participants.
A news release says 10 young ladies will participate in the 2019 Scholarship Program. Each participant will compete in five categories: talent, fitness, interview, academics, and self-expression. Participants will be competing for over $6,000 in cash scholarships.
Organizer Holly Hampton says the program has been very successful in the past.
Some of the process to select a winner–including analysis of academics and the interview process–will be complete before Sunday afternoon.
Hampton says one goal of Distinguished Young Women is to encourage young ladies to be well-rounded individuals.
The young woman selected as 2019 Distinguished Young Woman of Christian County will participate in Distinguished Young Woman of Kentucky in January of next year. The young lady chosen at the state level to represent Kentucky will travel to Mobile, Alabama in June to compete for the title of Distinguished Young Woman of America.
