The United Way of the Pennyrile kicked off its fundraising campaign Thursday morning and the various cabinets have already made significant progress toward reaching their goal.
All money raised will benefit the 20 United Way agencies that serve Christian, Todd, Trigg and Caldwell counties and co-chair Russ Guffey says over half of the people in the region were impacted directly by one of those agencies last year.
One of those individuals is Jennifer, who became a client of Sanctuary, Inc. as a victim of domestic abuse. She says Sanctuary has given her a voice and confidence she lacked before arriving at their door.
Each cabinet reported on early fundraising totals—with several pace-setter campaigns already very successful. Hopkinsville Electric System and Ebonite have raised $26,000 and Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority has brought in $18,300 for United Way.
Co-chair Chris Gilkey says they’ve already raised about $243,500—30-percent of the way to their $806,000 goal.
This year’s theme is Dynamic Duos and the cabinet chairs dressed in costumes with appropriate walk-up music.
