Police in Montgomery County have charged a man with attempted criminal homicide after he allegedly ran over a victim with a vehicle during a carjacking last week.
A news release from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department says the victim stopped on July 16 and gave a ride to 20-year old Trent Rippie of Springfield after seeing him walking along the side of Zinc Plant Road.
When the victim stopped at a friend’s house and got out, Rippie moved to the driver’s seat and started to drive away.
Police say the victim tried to stop Rippie from leaving and that’s when he struck the victim three times and ultimately drove over him.
Rippie was arrested Thursday in Robertson County on unrelated burglary, theft and evading charges and was additionally charged with attempted criminal homicide and theft of property.
