Hopkinsville Electric System has been awarded the American Public Power Association Safety Award of Excellence for outstanding safe operating practices in 2017.
The utility earned a first place award in the category for utilities with 60,000-110,000 worker-hours of annual worker exposure, according to a news release. More than 300 utilities entered the annual Safety Awards, which is the highest number of entrants in the history of the program. The incidence rate, used to judge entries, is based on the number of work-related reportable injuries or illnesses and the number of worker-hours during 2017.
General Manager Jeff Hurd says HES is proud of its safety record and, “This award is a testament to the hard work that goes into ensuring that our team members go home safe to their families every day.”
