A Hopkinsville couple was arrested on multiple charges Saturday afternoon after vehicle and foot pursuits.
Officer Alexander Cortez stopped 32-year old Zachary Moody at East 13th St. and Phelps Ave. for not wearing a seat belt and he exited the vehicle and ran toward the rail-trail, according to the arrest citation. Officer Cortez slipped in mud and fell during the pursuit and cut his knee and damaged his body camera.
A passenger in the car, 28-year old Ashley Moody, got in the driver’s seat and drove away. She was located at 1303 Summit Street and was arrested. Police say two children under the age of 12 were in the car.
A K9 alerted on the vehicle and a search revealed two baggies of marijuana and a baggie of cocaine.
Both were charged with fleeing or evading police, trafficking in marijuana and possession of methamphetamine. Zachary Moody was additionally charged with two counts of wanton endangerment and criminal mischief and Ashley with endangering the welfare of a minor.
