The Fairview Volunteer Fire Department is applying for a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant to start a Fire Prevention and Safety program that would serve Christian and Todd counties.
Deputy Chief Marc Hampton says they hope to receive $111,000 that would be used to purchase a 30-foot public education trailer that would simulate the experience of being in a house fire.
Hampton says the trailer could be taken to schools in both counties Fairview serves and he and another member of the department will be certified to teach fire safety using the apparatus
Fairview Fire also plans to offer services to corporations, businesses and other fire deaprtments in the region.
