The Christian County Jail celebrated 20 years of existence of the Substance Abuse Program, or SAP, Wednesday morning with a program at the jail.
Howard Dixon is the director of the local SAP program and says the initiative at the jail is one of the longest running and most successful in the state, and every day they get to help people that battle addiction.
Circuit Judge Andrew Self says SAP is a blessing that contributes to breaking the cycle of repeat incarceration.
Chris Goode is a part of the SAP staff but he’s also a graduate of the program, saying he fought with addiction for a long time and it got him back on the right path.
Current participants performed a skit about how to make correct choices and how to break the process of addiction. Director of SAP for the Department of Corrections Kevin Pangburn thanked Jailer Brad Boyd, the local judges and the staff at the jail for their continued efforts. He read a letter from Justice Secretary John Tilley congratulating them on their 20th anniversary and thanking them for healing those who deserve a second chance.
