The Eagle Crossing Apartments on Calvin Drive in Hopkinsville sustained significant damage after a possible tornado made its way through the area Saturday night.
Christian County Emergency Management Director Randy Graham says all injuries were non-life-threatening and he believes everyone is accounted for in the apartment complex.
HFD Lt. Michael Pendleton said 48 units and 107 people were affected. Three people went by EMS to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries. Approximately six people were treated on scene for minor injuries. No one was to be allowed back in the building Saturday night, as they were being transported to Recreation Department to meet with representatives of Red Cross.
He says D Building took on the most damage, with about 25-perccent of the upper story missing. All buildings had to be evacuated due to the fear of collapse.
Hopkinsville Mayor Carter Hendricks asked residents to be in prayer for those affected and said a state of emergency would be declared.
There was significant roof damage to Audio Specialists in the shopping center next to Wendy’s on Fort Campbell Boulevard and windows were blown out of the old Kmart Building that also took on roof damage. The Atmos Energy Building on East Ninth Street sustained damage, and Home Front Real Estate next door was destroyed. Tonja West says they will move to 605 South Main Street while they rebuild.
There was also report of structural damage in the 800 block of Overby Lane in Christian County.
The NWS in Nashville reports at least two injuries and significant home damage in the Farmington Subdivision east of Clarksville. A church in the area also sustained major damage. The Austin Peay-Murray State Basketball game was delayed after the storm ripped a hole in the roof of the Dunn Center and rain fell to the gym floor.
In Todd County, there was damageto grain bins on Shemwell Road and Emergency Management Director Daniel Smith says roof damage was noted at a residence on Bells Chapel Road.
