Rocky Adkins has made it official—he’s putting himself in the running to be the next Governor of Kentucky.
In an announcement Monday, the longtime Democrat says he has the experience and know-how to make sure the state maintains its positive moment when Governor Andy Beshear leaves office. Adkins is certainly no stranger to Kentucky politics, having served in the Kentucky House of Representatives from 1987 to 2019, some of those years serving as the Democratic Floor Leader.
He stepped down in 2019 to make his first bid for Kentucky Governor, where he ultimately faced off against Beshear in the primary election. After Beshear took that election, and went on to become governor, Adkins joined the Beshear team as a senior advisor to the governor.
He says his campaign this time around intends to focus on lowering costs, public schools and health care, protecting workers and organized labor, defending our fundamental freedoms and creating opportunities in every community.
He says, “Life is too hard for too many Kentuckians, and it does not have to be that way. People are working hard and doing their part. They deserve a government that does its part, too. For the past six years, we have worked to build a government that serves the people. I am running to make sure that work continues.”
Right now, Adkins will face off against current Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman in the race, thought there’s still plenty of time for more announcements to be made.
