The U.S. 51 Ohio River “Cairo” Bridge that stretches from Wickliffe to Cairo, Illinois, reopened to traffic Friday afternoon.
According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the bridge closed earlier in the month for repairs and has since been deemed safe for motor vehicle traffic; all lanes are now open.
However, the bridge is set to have daily lane restrictions from Monday, July 20, to Friday, July 24, for an inspection. The cabinet shared that climbers and crews using an under-bridge inspection vehicle will be conducting the hands-on inspection.
During the bridge inspection, one lane will be open with alternating traffic from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists are advised to watch for signs in the area.
