Hopkinsville Police arrested 28-year-old Gideon Stoltzfus of Herndon after he reportedly led officers on a pursuit with a passenger in the car on Thursday.
According to a report, a vehicle was traveling south on Walnut Street, and an officer saw that the operator was not wearing a seat belt. The officer began to follow the car, before they initiated a traffic stop.
The vehicle reportedly fled at a high rate of speed onto Bill Bryan Boulevard toward Fort Campbell Boulevard. The responding officer reportedly terminated the pursuit, but other officers witnessed the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and followed.
The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed into small trees at a residence on Cox Mill Road. Officers detained the driver, who was identified as Stoltzfus, and his passenger. The passenger reportedly told officers that he was scared and told Stoltzfus to stop multiple times.
Stoltzfus was charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, first-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, failure to wear a seat belt, driving on a DUI suspended license and having an expired vehicle registration.
