75th Western Ky. State Fair gets underway today with mud racing, line dancing

The 75th Western Kentucky State Fair is about to kick off, with gates opening at 5 p.m. at the fairgrounds in Hopkinsville, and this year is shaping up to be big.

Speaking with WHOP Friday morning, Organizer Megan Marsh says the big day is finally here and they’re going to get things started with a $25 unlimited ride armband night and 4×4 Truck Mud Racing in the grandstands. With the rain we had Friday morning, she joked that the track should be plenty muddy.

That’s not all happening at the fair Friday, with line dancing happening with the Country Twang Band in the air-conditioned convention center, with admission $5 and entrance into the grandstands only $5.

Marsh says that anyone who has already purchased a WKSF 75th anniversary t-shirt will get into the fair for free tonight, and if you like the look of them, they’ll have some for purchase on the grounds. She says they were designed by a local student, and they love how they turned out.

Along with the abundance of fairs rides and food available Friday, the petting zoo will be open in the livestock pavilion. You can find the full schedule for the Western Kentucky State Fair on their website, westernkentuckystatefair.org.
