Former HHS, HCA star Thompson commits to South Florida

Former Hopkinsville High School and Heritage Christian Academy baseball player JJ Thompson announced on his X account Thursday afternoon that he has committed to the University of South Florida. 

The left-handed pitcher spent the last two seasons at Wright State University. He entered the transfer portal two weeks ago. 

The 2024 Kentucky High School Player of the Year helped Wright State win the 2025 Horizon League Tournament championship and also helped the Raiders upset Vanderbilt in the NCAA Tournament. 

In two seasons at Wright State, Thompson was 5-4. This spring Thompson pitched 39 2/3 innings and struck out 44 batters while walking 32. He was 3-4 with a 7.49 ERA. 

Thompson has two years of eligibility left.
