Local school board receives high school occupancy update

The Christian County School Board received a construction update for the consolidated Christian County High School and approved a couple of change orders at Thursday’s meeting.

Construction continues on the high school, which is set to open in August. The school currently has a temporary certificate of occupancy, and Kevin Hitchel from Alliance Corporation says they need to apply a finishing coat to the asphalt and complete line striping before they can receive the final certificate of occupancy. He says they plan to receive the final certificate later in June.

Then, board members approved two change orders for the consolidated high school, which includes the construction of an outdoor storage building for the band.

School Safety and Security Director Clayton Sumner presented a safety recap for the 2025-26 academic year. During the school year, 107 citations were issued, and 66% of them were for truancy. Sumner spotlighted some of the other citations, which include disorderly conduct, drug possession, forgery and assault-related offenses.

At the meeting, Whitney Aldridge and Priscilla Kirby were recognized for organizing this year’s Project Graduation. Aldridge says they received more than $29,000 in donations and that over 300 people attended the event.

The pair were presented with certificates for their service.
