With road work on Interstate 24 near Exit 89 causing traffic congestion and issues, motorists have been trying to find ways to traverse that part of the state without using the interstate.
That does mean, however, that traffic has increased heavily in areas such as Trenton in Todd County and in Oak Grove and Pembroke in Christian County. Some of the folks might be driving a little recklessly, not knowing the area and speed limits as well, but now Kentucky State Police are looking to slow things down in those areas.
State Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke says he’s spoken with local law enforcement and has learned that KSP will have extra patrols along U.S. 41 between Pembroke and Trenton, near the Tennessee state line, all in the effort of keeping people safer on those smaller roads.
Work is set to continue through at least August on that stretch of I-24, meaning the traffic issues will likely linger through that time, so Dossett says KSP will have a prolonged presence around Pembroke.
Oak Grove is facing even heavier traffic issues, with multiple incidents of semi-trucks dipping off the roadway, traffic accidents and more taking place.
