Lake Morris to no longer be open 24/7

Lake Morris in Hopkinsville will return to its standard schedule for being open to the public, after complaints of misuse during the overnight hours.

The Hopkinsville Police Department is the steward of Lake Morris and had opened the lake for 24/7 use, but following what Police Chief Jason Newby calls a high amount of complaints from surrounding residents due to misuse of the property, they’ll be returning it to it’s usual schedule of being open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Chief Newby says he knows that its frustrating, especially for folks who used the lake appropriately in the evening or early morning hours, but he hopes maybe one day they can try it again.

Lake Morris is a municipal watershed located in Hopkinsville that’s popular for fishing, located in the 2200 block of Morris Lake Road. It was opened for 24/7 access in late March, but now returns to its 7-to-7 hours.

Watercrafts with gas motors are prohibited on Lake Morris, as is swimming, camping or hunting.
