Heritage Christian opts out of district baseball tourney

The District 8 Baseball Tournament will be a three-team field in 2026.

According to Heritage Christian Academy Headmaster John Walsh, HCA, notified officials with Christian County, Fort Campbell, and University Heights Academy that HCA was withdrawing from postseason competition during a meeting at the private Christian school on Wednesday. That leaves Christian County, Fort Campbell, and UHA as the only schools with teams vying for a District 8 Baseball Tournament title.

The Warriors also opted out of postseason play in soccer and boys’ and girls’ basketball in 2025-26.

HCA (3-10) already had forfeited regular season baseball games to UHA (14-2) and Christian County (10-7). The Warriors are scheduled to host Fort Campbell April 20.

Walsh said athletic directors from each of the four schools also voted Wednesday to only count the first game toward seeding for the tournament.

Currently, UHA is 2-0 in the district. Christian County is 1-0 and Fort Campbell is 0-2. The winner of Friday night’s UHA-Christian County game would most likely be the top seed for the district tournament.

The No. 1 seed would get a bye in the tournament. The No. 2 and No. 3 seeds would play with the winner advancing to the championship game. The district champion and runner-up advance to the Region 2 tournament, which will be held at Union County High School.

This year’s district tournament is scheduled to be held at UHA’s Chris Simmons Field.

The District 8 Softball Tournament also is a three-team event with Christian County, Fort Campbell, and Hopkinsville the only District 8 schools participating in the sport this season. Hopkinsville will be the host school for the tournament, which will be held at Christian County’s Lady Colonel Field.
