CCHS’s Miller earns medal at state wrestling tourney

It was a good day for the Region 1 teams at the KHSAA State Wrestling Tournament, but a tough day for local grapplers at the event that wrapped up action Friday at Alltech Arena in Lexington.

Union County won the team championship with 271 points and Region 1 runner-up Paducah Tilghman took second place with 168.5 points.

Harrison County (140), Boyle County (135.5), and Ryle (117) rounded out the top five in the team standings.

Christian County had one wrestler place as senior Dane Miller took eighth place in the 144-pound division.

The Colonels’ DeAsian Harris (190) qualified for the second day, but lost his first consolation match of the day and finished the tournament 2-2. Treshawn Crenshaw ran into Union County’s Austin Cummings in his first consolation match of the day and fell 3-0 to finish 1-2 at the state tournament.

The Colonels finished 46th overall with 19 points.

Hopkinsville took 76th with five points.

The Tigers’ lone grappler on the second day, Ayden Brison, lost his first match to go 2-2 at the state meet.

The Colonels and Hopkinsville wrapped up their final wrestling season in both school’s histories, as they will consolidate for the 2026-27 season.

Meanwhile, the Girls’ KHSAA State Wrestling Tournament got underway on Saturday morning.

Christian County’s lone representative, sophomore Avah Miller, won her opening match 6-0 over Fern Creek’s Divine Mujanukaire.

Avah Miller was scheduled to next wrestle Bell County’s McKenzie Webb in a winner’s bracket second-round match.
