Local organizations partner to host military veteran resource fair

Local organizations are coming together to host the Hopkinsville Stand Down and Resource Fair, to connect military veterans with available assistance and services.

The resource fair will be at the Hopkinsville War Memorial Building on Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Eugene Cottingham, the commander of the Disabled American Veterans Hopkinsville Chapter, says they partnered with the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs to host the resource fair.

Cottingham says he has encountered veterans who are unaware of the resources available to them. At the resource fair, veterans can learn more their health benefits, utility and rental assistance, senior care and receive donated winter clothing. Lunch will also be provided.

Representatives from Cumberland Hall Hospital, Kentucky Legal Aid, Veterans Affairs, Murray State University, the Hopkinsville Salvation Army, the Pennyroyal Veterans Center and many other agencies will be in attendance. The fair will also feature a haircut station.

Cottingham says veterans planning to apply for benefits or assistance should bring their DD214 form, which is their certificate of release.
