Colonels hold off Caldwell County to end 6-game skid

The Christian County Colonels put an end to their six-game losing streak by holding off host Caldwell County 79-71 Friday night in a boys’ high school basketball game.

The Colonels and Tigers went back-and-forth much of the night with Caldwell leading by as much as seven points in the first half and Christian County enjoying a nine-point advantage in the first half.

However, the Tigers had whittled the lead to 38-36 at the break.

Caldwell County opened up the second half with a 2-3 zone that Christian County solved with seven quick points. The Colonels would outscore the Tigers 23-12 in the third quarter and take a 61-48 advantage into the fourth quarter.

Darren Bigbee, Jayovontae Henderson, and Josh Bridges provided much of the scoring in the third period for Christian County.

However, Pax Aikens and Daelyn Lander brought the Tigers back and got as close as four before Bigbee, Frank Pollard Jr., and Bridges closed Caldwell out on the free throw line.

Bigbee and Henderson led the Colonels with 18 points each. Rahsean Stevenson had 14 points and Bridges finished with 12.

Aikens led Caldwell (11-10) with 22 points and Lander added 19. The Tigers also got a big night from senior Jack Roach, who finished with 18 points before fouling out with 1:27 to go.

The loss ended a three-game winning streak for the Tigers, who have lost eight of the last nine meetings with the Colonels.
