The Christian County Lady Colonels got off to a quick start and rolled past Hopkinsville 74-35 Friday night in a girls’ high school basketball game in Tiger Gym.
The Lady Colonels’ pressure defense forced eight Lady Tigers’ turnovers in the first quarter as Christian County raced out to an 11-0 lead and pushed its advantage to 21-6 after one quarter.
Hoptown, which has lost 10 straight games, committed nine more turnovers in the second quarter as the Lady Colonels expanded their lead to 44-18 at the break.
The second half was more of the same as the Lady Colonels (8-7) continued to press Hopkinsville’s young guards. The Lady Tigers committed 14 more turnovers in the second half before Christian County began substituting.
Anaysia Bagwell had a big night for the Lady Colonels with 17 of her game-high 24 points in the first half. Genesis McGee added 14 points and Carliah Hobson added 10 for Christian County, which swept the season series.
Hopkinsville was led by Kaveyah White, who scored 13 points. Serenity Ewing added 11 for the Lady Tigers (1-13).
Christian County is scheduled to play host to Fort Campbell as part of a girls’/boys’ doubleheader on Monday night, weather permitting. Tipoff for the girls’ game is set for 6 p.m. with airtime at 5:45 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm or 953thefarm.com.
Hopkinsville is scheduled to play Monday night at Henderson County, weather permitting.
