Rep. Dossett discusses upcoming legislation, auditor’s report

There will be plenty of talk about and consider when the Kentucky General Assembly convenes in the first week of January, and local legislators are bringing their priorities to the table.

Representative Myron Dossett represents the Ninth District, which is a large portion of Christian County, and as one of the legislator’s longest serving members, he’s no stranger at all to a budget session. He’s not particularly worried about the governor’s anticipated funding shortfall, and he doesn’t expect they’ll drastically cut funding, though he says legislators will work to tighten down their line items in a budget.

He says he has bigger concerns, including the state auditor reportedly discovering the misspending of roughly $800 million.

Along with making sure the state pension system remains fully funded, Dossett says he already has some legislation lined up, including a bill that would aim to protect the rights of land and property owners regarding imminent domain.

He says he’ll also be filing some legislation that would trim down on what he calls the overpopulation of deer herds in the state, as they present a hazard in numerous ways. That said, he says any legislation would be within reason.

Legislators will begin their work on January 6, where they will then have roughly four months to get a spending plan passed, along with any other legislation.
