Hopkinsville man charged with strangulation, assault

A Hopkinsville man is facing numerous charges after he allegedly assaulted a woman and struck a small child last week and then fled from police.

According to the report from the Hopkinsville Police Department, officers responded to a residence on Glass Avenue for reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, contact was made with the victim who informed officers that 26-year-old Mikal Yanal of Hopkinsville had allegedly hit her in the face, choked her until she couldn’t breathe, held a knife to her throat and hit her while she was holding a small child, which resulted in the child being struck.

He also allegedly took her phone so she couldn’t call for help. The victim reportedly had visible injuries to her face and hand marks around her neck—the child also had a red mark to the face.

Yanal was located on West Seventh Street, where he allegedly fled on foot from police. He was apprehended following a brief pursuit.

Yanal is charged with first-degree strangulation, first-degree fleeing or evading police, fourth-degree assault, second-degree wanton endangerment, criminal mischief, intimidating a participant in the legal process, public intoxication and possession of marijuana.
