Police arrest Hopkinsville man for taking a small child into freezing temperatures

Hopkinsville Police arrested 24-year-old Montray Bibbs of Hopkinsville after he reportedly took his child outside into freezing temperatures and was missing for over two hours early Tuesday morning.

Officers responded to a residence on Calvin Drive for a disturbance report. At the scene, a woman reportedly told officers that she and Bibbs had gotten into an argument and he ended up pushing her down, taking their child and leaving the residence. Bibbs reportedly left on foot and the child, who is under the age of two, was only wearing a diaper while it was around 29 degrees outside.

After over two hours of searching, Bibbs and his child were located on East 9th Street. Bibbs allegedly told officers that he and the child were picked up by a couple of motorists, but they did not believe his timeline. The child was wrapped in a towel and reportedly had chapped skin as a result of the temperatures.

Officers believe that Bibbs traveled through a wooden area as he had pieces of grass and spiderwebs in his hair and on his clothes. Bibbs was charged with first-degree criminal abuse.
