The Heritage Christian Academy Warriors’ basketball team will have a new look when the 2025-26 season tips off.
The Warriors lost four of their top scorers and top three rebounders from last year’s team, which finished 11-18.
The biggest loss came via the graduation of the school’s all-time leading scorer, Jason Leek, who was second in the state in scoring at 33.3 points per game. Leek is now playing at Bethel University in Tennessee.
Jeremy Leek, who was an assistant coach with the Warriors last year, was hired in the spring to take over the basketball program.
Leek said he hopes to get a group effort to pick up the scoring slack this season.
Leek said he thinks this year’s team will be faster and tougher than last year’s Warriors’ team.
Senior guard Nathan Wheatcraft returns at point guard for the Warriors. He was averaged 5.7 points per game last year. Sophomore Cadyn Travis (1.9 p.) and senior Aaron Hensley (2 p.) also return in the backcourt.
Juniors Jacob Morgan (2.7 p.) and Bryce Askew will hold down the forward positions for the Warriors this season.
HCA also will have some height in the post with 6-foot-5 juniors Noah Arvin (1.4 p., 1.3 r.) and Cameron Oesch.
Leek said the Warriors will attempt to play at at a faster pace than last year.
The Warriors will have their work cut out for them in District 8 again this season. But, Leek said his team has a chance to improve on its No. 5 seed from last year.
HCA opens the season Dec. 2 at home against one of the top teams in Region 2, Union County. Two days later, Caldwell County visits Warrior Gym.
Leek said he is excited to see how his team will perform this season.
The Warriors also will take aim at the Kentucky Christian Athletic Conference Tournament title on Dec. 6 at Cornerstone Christian.
