Despite the frigid temperatures, runners, walkers and bicycle riders crowded downtown Hopkinsville Thursday morning for Parks and Recreation’s 24th annual Turkey Trot.
Folks gathered at Founders Square to get registered before the 3-mile Turkey Trot started on South Main Street near the intersection of 9th Street. Parks and Recreation Superintendent, Toby Hudson, says they had a great turnout of around 2,000 participants.
Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight says South Main Street was filled with folks Ferrell’s Hamburgers down to the 9th Street intersection, and there were even some furry four-legged friends who participated.
Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight says the Turkey Trot is a great tradition and that parks and recreation does an amazing job hosting it each year. Knight also credits Pam Rudd and the late Pam DeBow with getting the trot started 24 years ago.
After starting on Main Street, the Turkey Trot took folks through the Greenway Rail Trail and concluded near the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library.
