Murder suspect Douglas Jones appeared in Christian County District Court on Monday, where the facts of the case were presented, and Judge Lindsey Adams denied a bond reduction.
Jones is charged with murder and first-degree wanton endangerment in connection with a fatal wreck that occurred on Lovers Lane on October 25. Jones’ vehicle reportedly went off the roadway and struck another vehicle head-on, which was parked in a driveway.
William “Ide” Bouldin was partially in the car checking his mailbox when it was struck by Jones. Bouldin was transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased, and his passenger suffered minor injuries.
In court, Christian County Sheriff’s Office Detective Justin Meacham provided more details concerning the case. Meacham shared that Jones was reportedly driving 45 mph at the time of the wreck and had a blood alcohol level of 0.284, which exceeds the legal limit of 0.08.
Ramon McGee is Jones’ defense attorney, and he claims that there is not enough probable cause to charge Jones with murder. He says there is an assumption that Jones’ blood alcohol levels resulted in the wreck, and that is not enough evidence to accuse him of intentional or wanton murder.
Assistant Christian County Attorney Katherine Foster called McGee’s logic an insult to everyone’s intelligence in the courtroom. Adams says the evidence presented shows probable cause, but he can see McGee’s thought process.
Jones’ current bond is set at $150,000, and McGee requested that it be lowered or that Jones be temporarily released on an ankle monitor. However, Foster was against the bond reduction and believes the amount is appropriate.
Adams says Jones has been deemed a danger to himself and others, and that his bond will remain the same.
