Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight to run for reelection

Making it official, Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight has announced that he has filed his paperwork to seek re-election to that seat in 2026.

In a news release Wednesday morning, Mayor Knight expressed his commitment to a vision for Hopkinsville that honors the City’s history while building a strong future, paired with a dedication to the people. Knight has served as Hopkinsville’s mayor since 2022 and will run as a Republican, meaning he will face newly announced candidate Russ Guffey on a primary ballot.

Speaking with WHOP News, Mayor Knight says he’s ready to push forward with his Growing Home initiative, citing the police department being fully staffed, the removal of unsafe structure and a new fire station.

Knight says he’s learned a lot during his first term as mayor, and he’s ready to bring that experience into the future to pave the way for a brighter tomorrow.

Mayor Knight says this position isn’t about holding a title, it’s about service to the people, and he believes Hopkinsville’s best days are still ahead. Knight is a local business owner with James Knight Appliance, which was founded by his father, the late James Knight Sr.
